Hey friends 👋
This is Balint from “The Psychology Behind Design”.
Every Thursday, I share 3 quick product design tips for founders and designers.
3-2-1: Vamos!
First versions are never great. They're a starting point, not a destination.
This bothers many designers. We want our work validated quickly. Praised early. Accepted immediately.
But great design emerges from rejection. Each "no" shapes understanding. Each failure adds context. Each iteration builds insight.
Consider how writers draft stories. The first draft is always rough.
Full of plot holes. Weak character development. Clunky dialogue.
But each revision reveals what's missing. What needs focus. What can be cut.
Design works the same way. Early versions lack context.
Miss edge cases. Overlook real needs.
The magic happens when others interact with our work:
Users reveal hidden problems
Developers expose technical limits
Stakeholders share business context
Support teams uncover edge cases
This explains why:
Solo designs often miss the mark
Team feedback improves solutions
Multiple iterations work better
First versions rarely survive
Great design isn't born from validation. It's shaped by understanding earned through rejection.
Next time your design faces criticism: What could this rejection teach you?
My Favorite Things this Week
📖 Resource - How do you know which chart to use for your designs? For me, it was always a guesswork or a lot of research. I love this visual vocabulary because it’s simple and actually helps you think through data storytelling. It doesn’t overwhelm you with choices but helps you find the right visualization based on your data’s story.
Each week, I partner with tools or creators I trust to help you build better products.
✨ This week’s partner: Mobbin - Design Inspiration
Mobbin is my companion for design research because you can discover successful design patterns and learn how top apps solve common challenges. Used by 100,000+ designers to inform better design decisions.
That's all for now
